Susana Illera Martínez

Award Winning Author & Creative

Susana is a writer, designer, and aspiring poet from the beautiful Cali, Colombia. She lives in Miami, Florida where she enjoys taking pictures of sunsets, her orchids, and her two cats.

Among her published works in Spanish, we can find Clara ~ Cuentos & Poemas, an anthology of poems that combines the emotional contrasts of her life; and, Lo que escribo en la arena (Cuentos y otras cosas que se olvidan), a collection of stories, micro-stories and illustrations that reflect the author’s versatile style and approach to a wide variety of topics; definitely a great read for young and adult audiences.

Inspired by her love for storytelling and juvenile literature; Susana, in collaboration with Snow Fountain Press, published her first children’s book: Lala, a different kind of lizard (Una lagartija diferente). This title was recognized in 2020 with second place in the International Latino Book Awards in the category of Most Inspirational Children’s Picture books and became the first book in the Lala the Lizard™ bilingual series, followed by Lala and the Pond by The Rock (Lala y el Charco de la Piedra), which is now available.

In 2021, she teamed up with Disney’s Publishing Editors and the Disney Story Book Art Team to publish the first Bilingual Pictureback® book based on Encanto, Disney’s film about an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia. El don de una familia/The Gift of Family is published with Random House Children’s Books.
